SureSmile Aligners have been around for about six years now, but in that time, there has been very little publicity about them. To get the word out about SureSmile Aligners and what they do, let us tell you ten things you probably don’t know.
1. Not all dentists offer the service.
SureSmile is not the only option when it comes to clear aligners. Several other orthodontic products in the marketplace, including Invisalign and SmartSmile.
SureSmile is one of the more common options, but this has certainly not hindered its success.
2. SureSmile results require patience.
It takes time to see results from SureSmile. You may be surprised at how quickly as weeks go by. SureSmile Aligners are a self-administered treatment, meaning that you take them at home and leave them in place for several weeks.
3. At-home care is not hard to do.
Following the instructions found in the SureSmile App will help you immensely. It is well worth your time to take a few minutes to read over these instructions instead of quickly running through them later on when you are ready to wear your aligners.
4. The initial phase will result in some pain and swelling.
You will feel tenderness and swelling at the beginning of your treatment, but this should last only a few days. You may also feel discomfort during the weeks of wearing aligners. If you want to alleviate some discomfort, use ice packs.
5. SureSmile is not for everyone.
There is no specific age range for SureSmile Aligners, although younger people are more likely to be starting treatment.
6. SureSmile Aligners need to stay on your teeth.
SureSmile Aligners are a two-part system. The first part is the adhesive side of the aligner, which attaches to your teeth. The second part is the clear, plastic strip, which goes into your mouth and is placed on your teeth. If you take off an aligner or remove it too soon, even if you are wearing it as your dentist advised, you may not see results.
7. Your speech may change.
Not everyone will experience it, but some patients find certain words are more difficult to pronounce when wearing their aligners. If you have trouble saying certain words as your teeth move, you may want to consult with your dentist about changing the order you will be wearing your Aligners.
8. You can replace SureSmile aligners.
If you lose or break an aligner, it is easy to replace it. It is something that your dentist will be able to help you with. SureSmile Aligners are durable and can handle the wear and tear of everyday life, but they are not indestructible.
9. You should have good oral hygiene.
SureSmile aligners are meant to help your teeth move effectively. Throughout the course of your treatment, it is important to maintain good oral hygiene habits and care for the aligners as instructed by your dentist.
10. Newer SureSmile models are better.
SureSmile Aligners have been improved since their initial launch; these new versions are lighter and more comfortable than the original ones. The newer models can also be worn for longer, with several months in between each new aligner.
